2. Basic information on what the course covers

Course level: Introductory

This is the first course in Britain that guides you through ‘all you need to know about climate change’ in just three hours. The course was developed in partnership with Ruskin College, Oxford and provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject that also encourages participants to explore their personal feelings of trepidation and hope.

The course covers the causes and impacts of climate change, the need for adaptation, the scientific and political consensus, the international carbon budget, large scale solutions, personal emissions, and finally leads people to consider their personal strategy for dealing with the problem.

The course follows a fast-moving pair- and group-work format, guided by short video presentations by Professor Diana Liverman, Director of the Oxford University Centre for the Environment; George Marshall, founder of COIN and author of Carbon Detox; Dr Chris West, Director of the UK Climate Impacts Programme; and leading climate change journalists George Monbiot and Mark Lynas. It is accompanied by a 20-page information pack.

The half-day format and close group work makes this course particularly appropriate for employee awareness raising and team building.
